Black Sheep Kitchen catering was established in 2019. The name derives from Chef Joey’s pertinacity to follow his own vision and embracing his divergency. He believes that to celebrate the ‘black sheep’ nature within each of us, is to understand that it is through owning our unconventional qualities that we find our truest and most authentic selves.
Chef Joey pridefully carved a niche for himself as a self-taught cook with 12+ years of kitchen experience in Hawai’i. He grew up influenced by family home-cooking and was inspired by his late cousin to continue and pursue their joint passion for all things food. He became an understudy to the elite Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Culinary department, where he expeditiously mastered his trade.
His creativity, hours of experimentation, and bold approach to cooking has earned him a loyal following who anticipate his next extraordinary chef-d'oeuvre.
Joey’s culinary team including Hoku Keamoai, and led by Chef Don Gusman took home the first place title in the 2024 Kaua’i Poke Fest.
Now based in New York, Chef Joey continues to offer catering services and occasionally travels back to Hawaii for select events.
